Denmark: “ability assessment” replaces medical certificates to reduce absenteeism

Reduce the number of sick leaves. Since October 5, medical certificates have been replaced by “ability assessments” (mulighedserklæring). It is composed of two sheets, one filled by the employer and the employee and the other by the physician. It lists the conditions for the employee’s early return to work after a sick leave, conditions agreed to by the employer and the employee. Based on this agreement, the doctor certifies that the employee’s health status allows them to fulfill these conditions. This measure was introduced by the tripartite agreement of September 29, 2009 (see our dispatch No. 080793) aimed at reducing the number and duration of sick leaves (an average 150,000 daily).
