The agreement signed on June 4 by the government and most political parties, reforming “vocational academies,” is in line with the government’s objective of improving the vocational education system. The government announced a comprehensive draft review by the fall, together with the social partners. With this in mind, the DA employers’ association and LO union confederation defined, on May 16, joint proposals for this reform, which they would like to see in the government’s draft. (Ref. 130381)
Not enough young Danes turn to vocational education and too many leave before they’ve completed it. Therefore, improving it has become a priority for the government, in order to achieve its goal of 95 percent of young people in higher education (see article No. 120309). Thus, after announcing, at the end of May, a coming reform (in September) of vocational education and training (EUD – Erhvervsuddannelserne: technical and commercial training), the government signed, on June 4, with the Venstre, Det Konservative Folkeparti and Dansk Folkeparti political parties, an agreement on the development of vocational academies, with a view to improving their autonomy and the quality of teaching.
