pay development in 28 European countries. Across the EU, nominal wage rose from 5.6% in 2006 to 7% in 2007. The rate of real increase is 2.3%, as opposed to 2.7% in 2006. (Ref. 080638)

The role of bargaining in pay development. Collective bargaining plays a significant role in pay setting in all 28 countries considered in this review. It takes place at different levels depending on the countries: sectoral (Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Portugal and Norway), national intersectoral (Belgium and Finland in 2006) and company-level for the United Kingdom and most new EU Member States.
