EU: adoption of REACH regulation is likely before the end of the year

European Parliament and Council reach a compromise on the regulation aimed at setting a registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals policy. The text is now likely to be adopted before the Christmas holidays. REACH will replace the 40 regulations which currently apply to chemicals. It will concern 30000 chemical products, 27000 companies and 1.3 million workers. (Ref. 061222)

On last November 30th, representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers reached a compromise deal on the draft REACH regulation. This considerably increased the chances of final adoption by the Parliament before the end of the year.
