EU: coming proposal to introduce quotas for women on boards

According to the Financial Times, EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding should propose, in October, binding rules to increase the number of women on the boards of large and medium-sized businesses. (Ref. 120505)

Sanctions. After the consultation last March (see our dispatch No. 120151), the European Commission is allegedly about to propose a legislation setting a quota of 40 percent of women on boards by 2020. The British daily, which was able to read the draft bill, says that the quotas should affect companies larger than 250 employees or with more than €50m in revenues.
