On 31 January the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW), the European Federation of Trade Unions in the Food, Agriculture and Tourism (EFFAT), the European Public Services Union (EPSU), The European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF), IndustriALL Europe (industry) and Uni Europa adopted a joint position on the subject of the upcoming debate on changes to the EU EWC Directive, where the call is for ‘a robust Directive’ that guarantees effective rights for European representatives. In it the union federations list the changes that they wish to see effected.
Talk is in the air over a revision of Directive 2009/38 on European Works Councils. The European Commission is expected to soon deliver an assessment report (c.f. article No. 9723), and on this basis consultations are likely to commence over the need yet again to revise the text.
