In its analysis published on December 11 entitled “Un contrat social pour l’Europe: priorités et pistes d’action “ (A European social contract, priorities and avenues), France Stratégie (General Commissioner for Strategy and Forecasting / Commissariat général à la stratégie et à la prospective) defends the argument that strengthening a Social Europe will enable Europe to exit both its moral and economic crisis. Three priorities are outlined: adding a social dimension to the euro currency, modifying the European mobility framework, and restoring the sustainability of European social models.
The social theme is back, and for good reason. The EU has moved away from social progress and social convergence and “this phenomenon of divergence and even duality between social systems indicates a sharp break in the political contract that ties European citizenship to the European Union”, explained Marine Boisson-Cohen in charge of the Debates, Partnerships and International Affairs service and co-author with Bruno Palier of “ Un contrat social pour l’Europe: priorités et pistes d’action” (A European social contract, priorities and avenues).
