After over 10 hours of negotiation, usually as bilateral meetings or small groups, the 27 Ministers of Labor came to a political agreement for the two draft directives which have been sitting on the council's table: the amendment of Directive 2003/88 on the organization of working time and that on temporary work. The exact terms of the compromise, based on the texts we presented in our article No. 080445, are still unknown. However, the French Minister of Labor, Xavier Bertrand, can already relax. With the national context of adjusting the 35-hour week, the French presidency inheriting the negotiations on the working time directive would have been a true poisoned chalice.
