Positive evaluation. The European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers’ Federation (EMCEF) for unions and the European Chemistry Employers’ Group (ECEG) for employers looked, on Thursday, march 3rd, at health and safety issues in the sector. “Currently, we can see that diseases and accidents related to the use of chemicals on the workplace have decreased. However, stress has increased among some workers, notably those who occasionally deal with dangerous products. This is why we have to keep on raising awareness” said Reinhard Reibsch, EMCEF general secretary, after the meeting. This observation is the result of different projects launched by the social partners over the years. In 2003, the EMCEF and the ECEG signed a memorandum placing health and safety at the center of social dialogue. Raising businesses and workers’ awareness to the dangers of chemicals is at the heart of numerous initiatives.
