EU: parliament adopts the “services” directive

The draft directive on services in the interior market was adopted, on November 15th, 2006, by the European Parliament. Euro MP 's followed the common position of the Council. Prior to the vote, European Commissioner Mc Creevy read a statement of the European Commission to lift any ambiguity on this text, notably as regards its impact on the labour law, legal or conventional. By adopting the common position of the Council on the “services” directive (see article n ° 06339), the Parliament followed the recommendation of the social democrat rapporteur, the German Evelyne Gebhardt, who introduced no amendment and called to support the common position of the Council. Only three technical amendments, which change nothing to the directive, were adopted. The adoption of the text by the Parliament means, indeed, the end of the legislative process of this very controversial
