EU: the European Federation of Metalworkers meets commissioner Verheugen

An EMF led delegation consisting of trade union representatives and works council members from the European automotive industry met, on February 9, with the Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, Günter Verheugen, in order to address the employment challenge in the European automotive sector, following the Commission's communication on this sector's future and on the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. This meeting, originally initiated by the union IG Metall, who had asked to be received by the European commissioner Günter Verheugen, was finally run by the European Federation of Metalworkers (EFM) who thought it was counterproductive that national unions come to knock on the commissioner’s door separately.
