European deputies adopted at first reading, on November 29, 2007, the draft regulation called "Rome I" which aims at transforming of the Rome Conventionon on the law applicable to contractual obligations to an European regulation. The Rome Convention is still an international treaty signed between EU Member States, which implies some difficulties (Member States can derogate from European rules through national ones or join multilateral conventions, they can express reservations and the Convention is limited in time).
