The Gdansk shipyard, where the Solidarnosc movement was born in the 1980s, should be subject to an important production cut, on the demand of the GD competition of the European Commission. Facing this demand, Polish and European trade union federations mobilize in order to preserve thousand of jobs. The problem even went up to the European Parliament where a vivid debate opposed Eurodeputies in the Commission. (Ref. 070719)
On August 31, about a hundred representatives from the Solidarnosc union came to protest against the European Commission’s demand to close two of the three holds of the Gdansk shipyard.
