The members of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament debated, on May 29, on the draft resolution for the future of collective agreements after the Laval, Viking and Ruffert decrees, presented by their leader, Jan Andersson. It calls on the Commission to revise Directive 96/71 on the posting of workers (PWD) to ensure that it will also fight social dumping. (Ref. 080459)
Swedish MEP Jan Andersson (PES) thinks that in the Viking, Laval and Ruffert cases (see our dispatches No.071012, 071034 and 080268) Luxembourg judges authorize risky wage competition to the detriment of the protection of employees. From that perspective, the draft resolution states that these decrees were interpreted in a way that was not the intention of the European legislator, who aimed, with this directive, at fighting against restrictions on the freedom to provide services.
