Finland: the reform on employees’ representation

The Parliament adopted a reform on the law concerning cooperation within private companies. It increases the employers' information and consultation duties regarding employees and their representatives. It also hardens potential sanctions if the bill is not respected. Besides, the law, which will come into effect next summer, will apply to companies with over 20 employees, as opposed to 30 at present. (Ref. 070129)

By adopting this text on February 9, 2007, the Parliament put an end to a process which started more than a year ago that started with a legislative bill presented on November 3, 2006 by the center-left government. Deputies almost did not alter the text brought before them.
