On 24 April the appeals court in Versailles confirmed the ruling, passed 10 days earlier, which ordered Amazon France to limit work at its warehouses to operations related to essential product categories, until an assessment of occupational risks is conducted with its works councils (CSEs). The ruling acknowledges that the company has taken certain measures but underlines that risk prevention work must be carried out in consultation with staff representatives for it to be truly sufficient, particularly during a pandemic.
At the root of this dispute is a case brought by the trade union Union Syndicale Solidaires, which accused the e-commerce giant of having continued its business as normal, despite the state of health emergency decreed by the government, and without having carried out an assessment of the risks linked to the pandemic for each workstation. Amazon France was also accused of taking measures over a period of days without first consulting staff representatives. The company has denied the allegation.
