al Labor Court (Bundesarbeitsgericht – BAG) rendered a ruling (BAG, 9 AZR 391/08) which improves the position of employees on their parental leave (“Elternzeit”). In the future, employees will be able to take full advantage of this system, even if two parental leaves overlap. (Ref. 090453)

Included in the
“Federal Act on Parental Pay and Parental Leave” (Bundeselterngeld- und
Elternzeitgesetz, § 15, 16 BEEG), revised on January 1, 2007, parental
leave allows any employee to suspend their labor
