Germany : privatization of Deutsche Bahn now seems uncertain

Once more, the parties of the big coalition (CDU and SPD) failed to agree, during an important meeting on October 26th in Berlin, on how to privatize Deutsche Bahn AG. The following day, Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee did not rule out a failure of the plan. Railway workers' trade unions Transnet and GBDA plead for « the maintenance of the group in the hands of the State ». Negotiations were postponed to November 8th. (Ref 061077)

A divided alliance. Initially, the federal government had to introduce a bill at the end of October. But the solutions defended by the negotiators do not seem very compatible (see article nº 06959).
