Germany: the government wants to make access to the labour market easier for some skilled workers from eastern and central Europe

There was talk of doing this for a few months (see our story 070331). Facing a workforce shortage threatening economic growth, the large coalition accepted, this Friday, August 24, to make access to the labour market easier for skilled personnel in trades such as electrical engineering or machine tools from eastern and central European countries. This decisions marks a turning point in the country's migratory policy which, until now, used to practice very strict restrictions to prevent social dumping. (Ref. 070688)
