The number of strikes in the public sector in 2011 was almost double that in 2010, with 88 in 2011 compared with 47 in 2010. There were 61 strikes in the private sector in 2011 compared with 45 in 2010. The number of days not worked in 2011 was significantly higher than the 2010 total of 0.365m, and is largely attributable to the 28 March and 30 November 2011 public pension strikes by members of thirty unions. Great Britain: 2011 strike statistics released
The government has published its annual statistical analysis of strike activity for 2011, showing that nearly 1.4 million days were not worked as a result of 149 strikes involving 1.53m workers. The number of days not worked was the highest since 1990 when 1.9m days were not worked and the number of strikes was the highest since 2006 when there were 158 strikes.
