Great Britain: Asda supermarket chain to force supplies to give equal pay to their permanent and temporary staff

Unfairness leading to conflict. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is planning to publish, in March, its first enquiry on discrimination within the supermarket supply chain in England and Wales. Discrimination mostly affects agency workers, overwhelmingly migrant, with poor working conditions very low wages. Yet, Unite says that the pay gap leads to social tensions in the agro sector. First, permanent workers accuse these immigrant agency workers of helping decrease wages. Besides, temporary workers feel exploited because they aren’t paid as much as their colleagues who do the same job but with a stable contract.
