Great Britain: by reforming public sector pensions on a scheme-by-scheme basis, the government could avoid a widespread social conflict

This means that rather than meeting all the unions together, only the relevant unions will have a place at the bargaining table when future talks over individual schemes – like the Local Government Pension Scheme, the NHS Pension Scheme or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme – are held. The concession made concerns middle-income workers in its public sector pension reforms, paving the way for scheme-specific talks on the issue.
