The government presented new measures belonging to its programme of stiffened fight against illegal immigration. Now, employers using illegal workforce are exposed to a monetary penalty which can go up to £10.000 and to imprisonment if they acted knowingly. (Ref. 070986)
The main measure will be effective as early as February 2008: employers hiring illegal immigrants without being aware of it will have to pay a £10.000 fine per workers maximum. If they acted knowingly, they will have to pay an unlimited fine and liable to imprisonment.
