Furloughing (technical unemployment measure) in order to take of children at home to look after your children, furloughing alongside working for someone else, alternating furloughing periods: these are just some of the aspects of the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (see here) that were clarified during the weekend 04-05 April in a bid to help employers gain a better understanding of the scheme. This totally new scheme allows companies to request the State to pay 80% of salaries (c.f. article No.11747).
Furloughed and able to work for someone else. The first update of the new scheme concerns people who left a company after 28 February to start a new job and find themselves technically unemployed (furloughed). These employees can ask their former employers to ‘re-employ’ them in order to receive 80% of their former salary, often more advantageous.
