Great Britain: government launches consultation to shorten collective redundancies procedures

Reducing the 90-day period.  Currently, for planned redundancies of 100 or more employees, employees have to consult their employees for a minimum of 90 days.  Judging that this measure is too binding, Norman Lamb, Employment Relations Minister, wants to give more flexibility to employers who have to adapt to fluctuating market conditions, all the while improving the quality of consultation which, he claims, has nothing to do with its length.  The government already did a call for evidence on the subject which led to the conclusion that it was necessary to make changes to the collective redundancies procedure.
