on July 13, that she wanted to revise default retirement age (65 currently)
next year, not in 2011 as originally planned. This announcement was made on the
occasion of the launching of the government’s strategy entitled “building a
society for all ages” aimed at helping the UK prepare for an ageing society.
The Minister also thinks that retirement should be more flexible, some willing
to retire early some willing to work more. In Great Britain, legal retirement age
is 65 for women. For men, it will gradually increase to reach 65 in 2020. Between 2024 and
2046, it should climb to 68 for both genders.
