Great Britain: latest union membership figures released

In 2011, there were 172 unions with 7.26m members, of which fourteen unions with more than 100,000 members accounted for 86% of all membership. This represented a decline from 7.32m the previous year.  As the largest union, Unite posted 1.515m members, Unison 1.374m members and the GMB 0.602m members. Apart from Unite, all the other unions with more than 100,000 members spent less on expenditure than they gained in revenue.
