UK supermarket giant Tesco (300,000 employees) is offering to equip every frontline shop worker with a body camera in a bid to counter the sharp rise in physical assaults perpetrated by customers, and thus enhance their safety.
On 03 September in a letter published in the Mail on Sunday, Tesco CEO Ken Murphy claimed, without giving more detailed figures, that physical assaults in Tesco stores had increased by a third compared with the same period last year. Hence why he hopes the use of body cameras will better protect those he considers “unsung heroes.”
