Great Britain: the result of wage negotiations is below inflation

The wage increases negotiated during the second quarter of 2006 -an average rate of 3%- are lower than inflation, according to Industrial Relation Services (IRS), specialized in employment issues. (Réf. 06761)

The IRS study is based on 130 agreements signed recently and highlights a difference of 0,3 points with the Retail Price Index, which climbed by 3,3%. “the rising inflation will oblige employers to raise wages consequently, says Sheila Attwood, director of the IRS bulletin on wages. However, wage negotiations must take into account the companies’ possibilities, and many employers say the rise in energy prices is a barrier to higher increases”.
