Facing the developpment of violence on the employees of several sectors who work in direct contact with the public, unions are asking for a better protection of these workers and to make employers aware of their responsibility. (Ref. 070701)
Facts and figures are alarming:
- Concerning stores, according to the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, Udsaw, 10.000 physical assaults by customers took place last year. “Store workers were attacked with iron bars, hit with hypodermic needles”, the spokesman, Paul Clarke, denounced. As for verbal aggression, it also reached an important level.
- In healthcare, public service teams underwent 58.000 physical assaults in 2007. According to the spokeswoman from the UNISON union, Anne Mit
