As the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi made an address to the nation on the evening of Thursday 19 March. He called on people to work from home as far as possible and demanded that the business sphere and the most well-off sectors of society continue to pay employees who cannot go to work.
“I urge all countrymen that for the next few weeks, get out of your house only when it is very important. As much as possible, work from home,” Indian prime minister Narendra Modi said in his televised address to the nation at 8pm on 19 March. No binding measures have been taken. A few hours earlier, the government had asked the various Indian states to instruct the private sector to consider implementing remote working arrangements as far as possible.
