On September 18, at the ‘National Labour Day celebrations, the Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya announced a number of schemes that the government is going legislate on to safeguard wage payments and social security cover for contract workers and the un regulated labour sector.
Although relaxing labour legislation is one of the government’s primary labour market reform goals (c.f. article No. 9855), regulating the informal sector is no less of an objective.
