During the week of February 11 2019, the banking sector social partners (the employers’ body the ABI -Associazione Bancaria Italiana and the trade union bodies, Fabi, First-Cisl, Fisac-Cgil, Uilca, and Unisin) signed a ‘joint declaration’ that aims to implement mechanisms for anticipating and pre-empting workplace sexual harassment, as well as protecting victims of the same. The text will be included as an annex to the national banking sector collective agreement, which the social partners are currently renegotiating.
Both the employers (ABI) and trade unions intend to raise awareness and responsibility across the banking sector and among its workers, over ‘the importance of pre-empting, anticipating, combatting and not condoning’ behavior related to gender-based violence and sexual harassment. The text also addresses the ‘unfair treatment of workers (male and female) who have rebuffed’, or ‘submitted to’ harassment.
