Italy: decree on “liberalizations” frees foreign rail operators from applying the national rail collective agreement

According to the government, these reforms are in line with the process of “liberation” of the two major curbs to Italy’s potential growth, namely “the lack of market competition and inadequate infrastructures.”  Concerning direct salaried employment, the decree provides for the removal of the obligation to apply the national rail collective agreement for undertakings and international groups of undertakings using Italian rail infrastructures.  In return, ORSA train drivers announced a 24-hour strike starting on January 26, against the abolition of the respect of the CCN.
