Nine former executives from Goodyear's Cisterna di Latina's factory (in the Latium, next to Rome) were condemned to an overall sentence of 20 years and four months of imprisonment for negligent homicide aggravated by the violation of the law on the prevention against industrial accidents. Luigi Di Mambro, one of the defenders of the group of victims who sued for
civil action, commented the ruling rendered on July 1 by the Latina Court. He said:
“This is the first time in Italy that, in addition to the production manager,
the head of the multinational company
is also condemned for “negligent homicide and negligent lesions” (omicidio
colposo plurimo e lesioni plurime), aggravated by the violation of the law
on the prevention of accidents and by the number of victims.
