ANIA, Italy’s insurance sector employers’ body that comprises the country’s main insurance companies, along with the relevant First-Cisl, Fisac-Cgil, FNA, SNFIA, and Uilca trade unions have recently signed a joint declaration on harassment and gender violence in the workplace. The document affirms the need to ‘promote a culture of respect for gender’. ‘All acts, and behavior, of both a physical and psychological nature,’ and involving harassment and gender violence ‘is unacceptable’. Measures thus have to be put into operation in order to anticipate and avoid, as well as report and sanction such behavior. ANIA member companies commit to supporting victims and to taking ‘appropriate steps’ vis-à-vis the authors of such violence. In order to safeguard confidentiality and to protect victims from potential reprisal action, reporting will be managed either from within the HR department, or another key central division. This joint declaration will be included in the next national sector collective convention document.
