Morocco: creation of a union-employers social mediation committee

Failure of the conciliation procedures provided for in the Labor Code.  The Union of Moroccan Workers (Union Marocaine des Travailleurs, UMT) and the General Confederation of Moroccan Entrepreneurs (Confédération Générale des Entrepreneurs Marocains, CGEM) recently signed an agreement setting up a joint social mediation committee.  Because of the increase in the number of social conflicts in Morocco in recent months, the goal is to avoid the deterioration of the strikes and additional costs for businesses.

The UMT and CGEM were driven to propose this committee because the conciliation procedures provided for in the Labor Code failed. Usually, labor disputes likely to cause a collective conflict are subject to a conciliation procedure before the delegate in charge of labor with the different committees planned
