Netherlands: 2009 budget to bring seniors to work

Important social measures were announced together with the 2009 budget on September 16, 2008, to encourage seniors to work before and after legal retirement age – 65. (Ref. 080708)

All employees who keep working after 62
will receive, starting next year, a “tax bonus” in the form of income tax allowance.
This benefit, based on age and income, will not exceed €4.591 a year (see our
dispatch No. 080649
). It will be maintained for employees who decide to keep
working after 65. Active people may postpone the payment of their old-age
pension (AOW), which will increase of 5% for each year worked.
