The Hague's Municipality organized a special "participation" summit, during which several large groups committed to invest in four suburbs around the city, Transvaal, Schilderswijk, ZuidWest and Stationsbuurt/Rivierenbuurt. The goal is to reduce school failure, drug issues and crime in these neighborhoods. (Ref. 080335)
Out of 118.000 inhabitants 8.500 are unemployed, and 40% of these for more than three years. Public authorities would like to bring these neighborhoods’ unemployment rate from 34% down to 25% in ten years. Ahold is going to open an Albert Heijn variety store in every district, recruit people and train interns.
