On 2 December, the Dutch House of Representatives approved a motion put forward by a Socialist Party MP, urging the Conservative government to introduce a mandatory statutory internship allowance for all students. The measure has long been advocated by the CNV Youth Union, which is pressing the parties that won the recent general election to incorporate it into the coalition agreement.
The motion tabled by Socialist Party MP Sandra Beckerman, calling on the government to “make appropriate internship remuneration mandatory for all levels of education”, was approved by a large majority of Dutch MPs on 2 December.
