The news. On September 10, Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Hans Vijlbrief (centre-left) sent a letter to the House of Representatives, stating that he intends to prohibit employers from deducting rent costs from migrant workers’ minimum wages. He also called for the bill to be passed so that it can take effect on July 1, 2028, alongside the entry into force of the “Appropriate Rent Act”, which aims to strengthen tenant protection.
