Germany/ IG Metall warns of impact of electric vehicle development on jobs. By 2030, almost one out of every two jobs in engine and gearbox manufacturing could be impacted by the rise of electric vehicles. Parts manufacturing appears to be among the sectors to be hit hardest. These are some of the conclusions that emerge from a new study, which looks at how the proliferation of electric cars could impact jobs, conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) and presented by trade union IG Metall on 4 June. According to the study, spearheaded by IG Metall as well as renowned automobile constructors and parts manufacturers from across Germany, the rise of electronic vehicles and their improved efficiency will lead to a net loss of 75,000 jobs in the area of driving systems in Germany.
