A general agreement was concluded after tense negotiations because of the mediators. Signed between LO (Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions) and its counterpart on employers’ side, NHO (Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise). It helped avoid a national strike which would have involved about 17,000 employees. It provides for a 3.4% general wage increase but mostly stabilizes the buying power of the lowest pay categories. Compromising over buying power. The agreement signed between LO and NHO is the result of a compromise observers say is rather “traditional.” Indeed, NHO refused to agree to a 4% increase like it did last year.
