Poland: during the summer new legislation on fixed term contracts and parental leave was adopted

During the holiday period the Polish Parliament tightened the country’s labor laws treating fixed-term contracts. Amendments to the system of parental leave both simplifying it and making it more accessible to fathers were also passed.

Three types of employment contract. On 21 August 2015 a law was passed that changes the nature of employment contracts and will come into force on 21 February 2016 (c.f. article No. 9002 on the draft proposal) From February the Labour Code will distinguish three types of employment contract: indefinite term, fixed-term, and trial period.

Employers will be allowed to sign trial period employment contracts only once and in the context of verifying employee qualifications, skills, and suitability.
