To deal with the impact of technological change, enhancing employees’ skills in their own jobs remains the main lever used by HR managers. This trend is confirmed by the 2022 international barometer on training matters, produced by the research division of training course provider Cegos. The survey, which gathered the views of 377 HR managers in seven countries (Germany, Brazil, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Singapore), found that upskilling is used by 66% of respondents. This percentage is nevertheless down by 6 points compared to 2021. On the other hand, so-called reskilling – training for another job – is now an option considered by 60% of the HR directors surveyed (an increase of 10 percentage points on last year). This approach is most common in Germany (72%), Singapore (69%) and Brazil (68%). France and Italy are at the bottom of the list: only 48% of HR managers say they are planning solutions to encourage employee mobility. Finally, it is no surprise that digital transformation and new ways of working remain at the top of the list of challenges for organisational transformation, respectively cited by 61% and 52% of the professionals surveyed. Cybersecurity ranks third (39%), just ahead of diversity and inclusion (37%) and well ahead of the ecological transition (31%), though this latter issue is highlighted as a concern by 60% and 40% of professionals in Germany and France respectively. Brazil is far behind on this issue (15%), just after Portugal (21%).
