Spain: Delphi is closing its Andalusian factory at Puerto Real

The equipment manufacturer announced, on February 22, that it is going to close its Puerto Real factory, in Andalusia. Notably specialized in the production of steering, suspension and rolling bearing systems, this company, employing 1,600 people, is supposed to have accumulated, in the last five years, losses amounting to 150 million euros. The regional government is denouncing the attitude of companies which supposedly beneficiated from subventions in exchange for commitments guaranteeing employment. (Ref. 070177)

The public authorities reacted vociferously. The company expressed its will to “immediately” open a dialogue with representatives from employees, administration and public institutions.
