Spain: Ministry of Employment point out the negligence of employers in work accidents

The Ministry of Employment has just introduced to employers and trade unions a report which analyses in depth the reasons of 509 deadly work accidents which took place between 2003 and 2004, throughout the country and throughout the sectors. (Ref. 061212)

The inquiry underlines the lack of involvement of firms in the prevention of risks and talks about a « cosmetic prevention » in a lot of cases. The Ministry worries about the big differences between intentions « officially shown by the firm in official documents » and reality when it’s time to apply the necessary measures to avoid accidents. 66.4 % of the firms surveyed had accomplished an evaluation of professional risks, but only 5.2% had taken the appropriate measures to avoid accidents.
