Spain: staff cuts and lower chain activity in the car industry

Several car manufacturers announced job cuts in Spain while others use the flexibility allowed by the collective agreements. However, even larger job cuts are to be expected. Unions are on the alert. (Ref. 080677)

Successive announcements. Manufacturers lowered their production projections because of the major sales drop in Europe. General Motors announced 600 job cuts at the Figueruelas plant, near Saragossa, which will produce 30.000 fewer units than planned. Ford chose temporary job cuts (ERE) for three months, which should affect 1.300 at its Almussafes plant near Valencia. The site will produce 18.000 fewer Focus. Seat (Volkswagen) only cancelled night shift so far at its Martorell site next to Barc
