The idea of a tax on companies that take on foreign workers is gaining ground even in moderate liberal circles. The aim of its proponents is to limit economic immigration, which has been on the rise in the Swiss Confederation since 2022.
The debate over a so-called ‘immigration tax’, applicable to companies hiring foreign workers, is growing in Switzerland. What is new is that the debate is spreading well beyond the traditional anti-immigration circles of the conservative right (SVP) to moderate liberal circles.
