The European Commission launches an information campaign to help prevent asbestos exposure

On September 1st, the European Commission launched an information campaign in all 25 Member States to raise awareness on the dangers of asbestos exposure. The campaign is primarily aimed at employers, employees and labour inspectors (Ref 06842)

The European Union adopted several texts in order to prevent the risks related to asbestos exposure, notably directives 1999/77/EC (ban of all uses of asbestos as from January 1st, 2005), 2003/18/EC (ban of the extraction of asbestos and manufacture and processing of asbestos products) and directive 83/477/EC related to protection of workers against risks linked to asbestos exposure at work.
